Kenya's cooperative system is built on democratic principles that most coffee-growing regions can only aspire to: members vote on representation, marketing contracts, milling decisions, and how profits are allocated. The New Runyenjes Farmers Cooperative Society, which oversees the Ena factory in Othaya, Nyeri County, takes that further — pre-financing its members for harvest inputs and labor, consulting on sustainable farm management, and helping cover family school fees. The coffee funds the community. The community tends the coffee.

At the Ena factory, cherry arrives daily during harvest, sorted on arrival for ripeness before being depulped, fermented overnight, washed in fresh water, and moved to raised drying beds for two to three weeks. After drying, the coffee conditions in perforated bins to stabilize moisture before export — a step that protects quality across the long journey to your cup. Grown at 1,700–1,890 meters in Nyeri County, the SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian varieties produce a medium-light roast that is bright and effervescent, with notes of orange, lemon, and floral complexity.

A cup that tastes like it was made with intention. Because it was.
