Smuggler's Notch Reserve (Whiskey Barrel Aged)
Smuggler's Notch Reserve (Whiskey Barrel Aged)
For centuries, Smuggler’s Notch was Vermont’s most secretive passage. A narrow mountain route was used to move contraband through the dark, whiskey included. This coffee knows that history.
The beans come from 400 smallholder farmers in the highlands of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, grown at 1,800 to 2,000 meters in clay mineral soil. Fully washed, sun and mechanically dried, then aged a minimum of 30 days in a whiskey barrel before being roasted to order. It’s a medium roast with notes of lemon, lime, nougat, and brown sugar, with a barrel character that runs all the way through.
Some things are worth the detour.
